2020 Olympic champion and three-time World champion David Taylor has registered to compete at the 2024 Senior World Team Trials at the MECA - CHI Health Center Omaha in Omaha, Nebraska, September 14-15.
Taylor registered for the event at 92 kg in men’s freestyle through the USA Wrestling on-line system on Thursday, September 12. Registration will remain open through Saturday’s weigh-ins.
Based upon the World Team Trials Procedures, should Taylor weigh-in at 92 kg on Saturday morning, he will become the No. 1 seed in the Challenge Tournament at the weight class.
The World Team Trials Procedures allows for a 2023 Senior World medalist at an Olympic weight class who enters the World Team Trials at an adjacent weight class, “that individual will receive an automatic #1 seed at the 2024 World Team Trials Challenge Tournament.”
Since Taylor was a 2023 World champion at 86 kg, and has registered at the adjacent 92 kg, he qualifies for the No. 1 seed at 92 kg.
On Tuesday, September 10, USA Wrestling announced the pre-seeds for the Senior World Team Trials in each of disciplines of men’s freestyle, women’s freestyle and Greco-Roman.
The published pre-seeds are subject to change through the completion of medical check and weigh-ins on Saturday, September 14.
At the World Team Trials, every entry is seeded for the tournament.
In addition to Taylor’s registration, there have been 10 other athletes who registered after the publication of the pre-seeds, with new athletes in each of the three disciplines. In addition, there is a possibility that athletes who are registered may not attend or may not make weight.
USA Wrestling will publish the final seeds for each of the 12 weight classes shortly after the conclusion of weigh-ins on Saturday morning. The final brackets for each weight class will be posted to FloArena at that time.
