USA Wrestling
After a lighter schedule last weekend opened the 2026-27 Division I season, this weekend features a full slate of both dual and tournament action for many more programs.
Dual of the Weekend
#5 Virginia Tech at #12 Lehigh Friday at 7 p.m. on FloWrestling
An early candidate for the top dual of the first semester, the reigning two-time ACC champion Hokies travel to the reigning two-time EIWA champion Mountain Hawks. Here are some of the top matches to have an eye on.
125: #6 Eddie Ventresca vs. Matty Lopes
Ventresca is a two-time All-American but fell in the Blood Round last year. He enters his final campaign looking to reach the top of the podium after placing seventh in 2023 and fifth in 2025. Lopes will be looked upon to fill the void left at Lehigh’s lower weights. He is coming off a 1-1 showing at the U23 World Championships at 61 kg.
141: #1 Luke Stanich vs. #2 Bo Bassett
Not much has to be written when you have the potential to see #1 vs. #2 in a dual. Stanich has earned All-American honors in each of his first two years, highlighted by a third-place showing last year in his first year at the weight (he moved up from 125 pounds). Bassett is one of the most decorated high school recruits of all time, and this past week won a Senior World championship to follow-up on his U20 World title earlier this summer.
157: #7 Collin Gaj vs. #18 Logan Rozynski
Gaj burst onto the collegiate scene last year with a fifth place, All-American finish as a true freshman. That was at 149 pounds. He now moves up to 157 pounds to make way for 2025 NCAA champion Caleb Henson who redshirted last year. With some unknowns in the middle of the Lehigh lineup, Rozynski will be looked upon to be the leader of those weights as he is coming off a year where he was named EIWA Freshman of the year and won the conference title in his debut season.
Other Notable Duals
#9 Iowa State at Utah Valley – Friday, Nov. 6, at 9 p.m. on FloWrestling
The Cyclones opened the Brent Metcalf, who was the Michigan and Midwest Region winner of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award in 2005, era with a 29-12 home win over Bucknell last weekend. Utah Valley came away with the team title at last weekend’s Clarion Open, with individual titles coming at 174 and 184 pounds, and finalists at 149 pounds, 157 pounds and 165 pounds.
Navy vs. #20 Rutgers (WrangleMania) – Saturday, Nov. 7, at 4 p.m. on FloWrestling
The much-anticipated debut of Rutgers freshman Anthony Knox could be the headline of this dual. The 125-pounder might face a ranked opponent in his first collegiate match, #24 Andrew Binni. One of the top matches will come at heavyweight, as Navy’s #12 Spencer Lanosga, who was the Louisiana winner of the DSHSEA in 2024, could face #24 Daniel Herrera, who transferred from Iowa State.
Throwdown on the Yorktown – Saturday, Nov. 7, 12:30-5 p.m. on FloWrestling
The third annual event will take place in Mount Pleasant, S.C., and the mats will sit on the flight deck of the USS Yorktown CV-10 aircraft carrier. The Citadel will host the event which features Air Force, Gardner-Webb, Purdue and Virginia in dual action.
#18 Wyoming at #3 Nebraska – Sunday 4 p.m. on B1G+
Look out for the upper-weight battles. The Cowboys return All-Americans at 184 pounds, 197 pounds and heavyweight. Nebraska has the talent to match up with them at all three of those weights, highlighted by returning All-American #5 Camden McDanel who could face #4 Joey Novak in a top five battle. We could also see the Cornhuskers' debut of 2025 125-pound national champion, Vince Robinson, who transferred from NC State.
