Louisiana becomes the 45th state with girls high school wrestling championships, with the addition of a girls division to its annual state high school championships starting in 2024-25. Only five states remain that haven’t created girls championships.

USA Wrestling’s Girls High School Development Committee, led by Joan Fulp and Andrea Yamamoto, have recognized Louisiana as the 45th state to host a state girls wrestling championships.

The Louisiana High School Athletics Association (LHSAA), in its annual convention on Thursday January 25, approved IV-24, a proposed amendment to its handbook which added a single girls division to its wrestling championships. The proposal includes competing in 12 weight classes with girls wrestling as adopted by the NFHS Wrestling Rules.

According to media reports, the proposed amendment was approved 96-1.
