LAS VEGAS – It’ll be a guaranteed changing of the guard in Greco-Roman Group A (55 kg, 60 kg, 63 kg, 67 kg, 72 kg, 77 kg), with no returning World Team member qualifying for the best-of-three championship finals on Thursday at the 2026 U.S. Open Championships.
The main attraction in tomorrow’s finals, which will set the U.S. World Team in the six lightest Greco-Roman weight classes, is likely to come from the next generation at 67 kg. Two-time age-group World medalist Otto Black breezed to the finals with three shutout technical falls. His opponent is 2019 U20 World bronze medalist Peyton Omania, who boasted a similar path of dominance at The Expo at World Market Center. Both wrestlers are known for dynamic offense and sweeping throws, which makes this series extra interesting.
Three finals series feature the establishment—past World Team members—against the new guard. 2023 World Team member Xavier Johnson will face two-time U20 World Team member Landon Drury at 63 kg. Two-time World Team member Benji Peak gets Peyton Robb, a 2021 U23 World Team member in men’s freestyle and three-time NCAA All-American at Nebraska, at 72 kg. 2009 World bronze medalist and Olympian Aliaksandr Kikiniou Sr. will look to hold off 2022 U17 World champion Joel Adams at 77 kg.
The bottom two weight classes pit past Senior World Team members against one another—Max Nowry and Brady Koontz at 55 kg, plus Dalton Roberts and Zane Richards at 60 kg.
Winners of the Greco-Roman World Team Trials qualify to represent Team USA at the 2026 Senior World Championships in Manama, Bahrain, this October.
The Senior Greco-Roman Group A championship series round one and medal matches, plus the Group B (82 kg, 87 kg, 97 kg, 130 kg) preliminaries, are set for 10 a.m. (PT) on Friday. Round two and three (if necessary) of the Group A championship series will take place at 6 p.m. (PT).
All the action from the U.S. Open Championships is available to watch live or on-demand on FloWrestling. Brackets and match-by-match results can be found on USA Bracketing.
