Dan Gable Museum celebrates Gable’s legacy with auction

WATERLOO, Iowa—The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum is celebrating the 20-year anniversary of Dan Gable’s retirement as the head wrestling coach at the University of Iowa with two special auctions.

Gable is arguably the greatest athlete and coach ever. In 1972 won a gold medal at the Munich Olympics without surrendering a point. As the head coach at the University of Iowa he led the Hawkeyes to 15 NCAA team titles in 21 years, compiling a 355-21-5 dual meet record.

In 1997, Gable won his final NCAA tournament as the head coach of the Iowa Hawkeyes, setting the record for most points scored at 170. The record was set in Cedar Falls, Iowa, which is less than 10 miles from where Gable grew up.

All proceeds from the auctions benefit the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum, a non-profit organization committed to advancing the sport of wrestling.
