2023 Pennsylvania USA Wrestling Teams Find Success

Team PA rolled into Fargo with a lot of expectations as well as a lot of unknowns but we fought the battle and came out with a record 3 National Championships leading the way was our 16U Girls who gave PA its first ever championship in the girl’s divisions. Our 16U boys captured their 5th consecutive National Championship and Junior boys won their first championship since 2016. Team PA also finished second in the total points battle picking up 561 points and finishing behind Illinois who had 567 points. Ryan Green also was honored as the Tom Clark Outstanding Greco-Roman Official Award.

GIRLS FREESTYLE:

16U Girls Freestyle recorded the first national championship by scoring 129 points and out distancing the remainder of the field. The girls also had two National Champions and 7 All Americans. Emma Bacon (112) and Sierra Chiesa (119) were National Champions.

Jaclyn Bouzakas (94) and Jordan Fouse (132) placed 2nd, Julissa Ortiz (127), Zoey Hanies (144) and Mackenna Atkinson (200) placed 5th. Caroline Hattala (200) was 6th and Daylee Watson (106) finished 7th.

Julissa Ortiz also won an award for the most falls.

Junior Girls Freestyle placed 4th scoring 77 points and had 1 National Champion and 5 All –Americans. Aubre Krazer (122) Captured a National Championship. Valarie Solorio (100) placed 2nd. Brenda Banks (225) was 4th, Lexia Schechterly (106) and Eliana White-Vega (127) were 5th and Savannah Witt placed 8th.

BOYS FREESTYLE:

16U Boys Freestyle won their 5th championship in a row scoring 180 points to outdistance Illinois who had 160 points. PA crowed two National Champions Landon Sidun (113) and Melvin Miller (145) as well as 10 All Americans. Hunter Snyder (170) and Jake Conroy (195) placed 2nd. Eli Herring (88) and Mark Efendian (285) both took 3rd. Mason Wagner (138), Nick Singer (152) and Dean Bechtold (220) all placed 4th. Emilio Albanese (94), Will Deter (113) and Arment Waltenbaugh (138) placed 5th.

Junior Boys Freestyle picked up their National Championship outscoring the field with 210 points and Wisconsin was the runner up with 159 points. The Juniors were led by two national champions Jax Forrest (126) and Vince Bouzakis (152). They also picked up 15 All- American leading that group was Aaron Seidel (113) placing second. Pierson Manville (145) and Adam Waters 170) placed 3rd. Kole Davidheiser (100), Davis Motyka (113) and Nathan Desmond (120) finished 4th. Dalton Perry (132), Holden Garcia (170), Tucker Hogan (195 and Nicholas Pavlechko (285) were 5th. Alexander Diaz (100), Colin Gaj (152) and Nicholas Kunstek (160) were 6th. Also picking up All-American status were Gauge Botero (120), Tahir Parkins (132) and Dillon Bechtold (195) were 7th and Calvin Lachman (220) was 8th.

BOYS GRECO-ROMAN:

Team PA didn’t meet its expectations in Greco but did a good job our 16u Boys Greco Team finished in tie for 4th with Ohio scoring 110 points and our Junior Boys Greco finished in 10th place with 52 points.

16 Boys Greco was led by National Champion Will Deter (113). We also have the following All Americans Melvin Miler (145) 3rd. Connor Smalley (195) 4th. Ned Kaufman (126), Jake Conroy (195) and Mark Effendian placed 5th. Jack Baron (113), Luis Alberto-Desilva (145) and Tavio Hoose (182) were all 6th place. Eli Herring (94) and Dean Bechtold (220) both were 7th.

Junior Boys Greco finished the event with 5 All-Americans lead by Davis Motyka (113), Pierson Manville (145) and Adam Waters (170) all placing 3rd. Dillon Bechtold (195) was 7th and Alexander Diaz (100) was 8th.
