2015 Wrestling Springfest
On Sunday May 3, the Massachusetts Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame is sponsoring the 2015 Wrestling Springfest at the Belmont Hill School.
The Wrestling Springfest is an awards, competition, and networking event that promotes Massachusetts and New England wrestling, as well as the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. The event features an awards presentation that recognizes the recent accomplishments of wrestlers and coaches, as well as a “braggin’ rights” dual meet and a college wrestling fair.
The Springfest begins at Noon on May 3, with the dual meet between prep and public school wrestlers. This entertaining meet is an exhibition of camaraderie and competition, as well as a showcase for these elite wrestlers.
This year, for the first time, there will be a college wrestling fair that connects high school wrestlers with college wrestling coaches. During the wrestling, there will be a meet-and-greet session between college wrestling coaches and high school wrestlers. Although all high school wrestlers are welcome, the college fair is specifically geared towards sophomores and juniors who intend to wrestle in college.
Wrestling coaches from Amherst College, Bridgewater State University, Daniel Webster College, Johnson and Wales University, MIT, Norwich University, Providence College, Rhode Island College, Roger Williams University, Springfield College, Springfield Technical Community College, Trinity College, University of Connecticut, University of Maine, University of New Hampshire, University of Rhode Island, Wesleyan University, Williams College, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute will all be representing their programs at the College Wrestling Fair.
At the conclusion of the dual meet, there will be an informational forum with two separate panel discussions: The College Admissions Process and What’s It Like to Wrestle in College. The first discussion will be led by admission counselors from Bridgewater State University and the Northfield Mount Herman School. The second will be a conversation with two college coaches – Jason Holder (Springfield College) and John Archambeau (Daniel Webster College) – and two college wrestlers – Rick Caruso (Bridgewater State University 2014) and Jeff Ott (Harvard University 2017).
The awards presentation, which begins at 3 PM, will recognize several Massachusetts individuals for their achievements and contributions to the sport of wrestling. Featured awards are the James Peckham “Earning the Right” Scholarships and the prestigious Dave Schultz Excellence Award. Also being honored are several outstanding wrestler and coach-of-the-year winners, as well as the 2015 recipients of the Wrestler’s Heart Award and the Bay State Pride Award.
