Many within the sport of wrestling know James Ravannack specifically for his leadership and commitment to amateur wrestling on all of its levels. However, those in the business world know he has made significant contributions to the offshore oil industry during his lifetime, showing great skills as a businessman and entrepreneur. Ravannack and his companies are credited with the world’s largest plug-and-abandonment operations, lift boat operations and slick line operations.
One of the companies he co-founded, Superior Energy, is a leader in developing technologies and specialized equipment for marine conservation and offshore plug-and abandonment. Today the company is valued at $1.5 billion.
In 2001, he founded Compliance Technology Group, a developer of software for oil production operations, which is prominent throughout the world. This unique firm is on the leading edge of software development for the oil industry. The company has serviced over 1,500 producing platforms with software. Compliance Technology Group was the first company to successfully perform a virtual inspection with an oil company for the Federal Minerals Management Service.
In 1999, Ravannack co-founded El Condor Resources, which manages gold mining exploration in Guatemala. Through a number of various contracts, the company holds a large number of mining leases in Guatemala. In 2004, the company went public on the Vancouver Stock Exchange and became Goldex Resources. Goldex is presently active exploring for gold reserves. Ravannack remains the company’s largest stockholder.
James Ravannack’s notable career has allowed him to financially support the sport of wrestling. His entrepreneurial spirit makes him an outstanding leader within the sport.
