The Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) Board of Directors approved girls wrestling for full recognition during its meeting on April 29, making Indiana the 46th state to host a state girls wrestling championship.

Award honors Olympic gold medalist, World champion, NCAA champion, National Wrestling Hall of Fame Distinguished Member and United World Wrestling Hall of Fame member Dave Schultz, whose career was cut short when he was murdered in January 1996.

Tricia Saunders High School Excellence Award State Winners Announced
First presented in 2014, the award is named for four-time World Champion and women’s wrestling pioneer Tricia Saunders, the first woman to be inducted as a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
