Wrestling Poses For 'Glamour Shot' On USS Midway

SAN DIEGO - As wrestlers pawed and pushed, tugged and tested Tuesday on the flight deck of the USS Midway in the first college dual aboard an aircraft carrier, Stephen Neal, who was inducted into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame as a Distinguished Member in 2012, saw far more than a sport.
He saw powerful possibilities.
Wrestling kept shaping Neal. It kept teaching. It kept adding to the tool box.
“My life was changed by wrestling,” said Neal, a San Diego High graduate who won a world title in 1999 before leveraging the sport as a starting offensive lineman on three Super Bowl-winning teams with the Patriots.
“Wrestling in college gave me the skills to play in the NFL. The mental toughness. The work ethic. All of it.”
