The Upstate New York Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame takes great pleasure in recognizing two of our honorees in the April Newsletter. Each of these outstanding coaches and people have had a significant impact on wrestling in their sections and the state of New York. The Chapter salutes them!

Rob Weeks

The Upstate New York Chapter would like to introduce Rob Weeks one of our 2022 inductees to the Hall of Fame. Rob is a graduate of Queensbury High School where he was coached by Hall of Fame coaches Jack LaBombard and Bill Smith. Rob was a standout Section II wrestler who won numerous tournaments and a Section II championship.

Following Queensbury, he wrestled at Fulton Montgomery CC and was a Junior College All-American. Weeks completed his undergraduate and master degree at Springfield College. He returned to Section II and coached at Hadley-Luzerne High School and then embarked on an illustrious career at Shenendowa High School. While at Shen his teams had a 64 match win streak and Coach Weeks was name the New York State Coach of the Year in 2011. His accomplishments are many and he is considered one of the very best in Section II annuals.

It is with great honor that the chapter recognize Rob Weeks with his induction into the Hall of Fame. Thank you Rob for all you have done for wrestling in New York State.

Randy Morrison

Randy Morrison started his wrestling career in 4th grade as a student in the Lowville Academy. During Randy’s senior year, 1984, he was crowned New York State Public High School Athletic Association’s state champion at the 215 pound weight class wrestling for Hall of Fame coach, Neal Aubel.

Randy enjoyed an illustrious coaching career at Gouverneur High School. Coach Morrison had 13 Section X team championships and sent 141 state qualifiers to the NYSPHSAA Championships in his coaching career. While at the states, Randy guided 35 Wildcat wrestlers to the podium and 5 of those wrestlers were eventual state champions. In 2003, 2004 and 2006 the Gouverneur wrestling teams captured first place in the Division II NYSPHSAA Championships under the tutelage of Coach Morrison. In addition, Randy has been the Section X representative on the New York State Wrestling Board since 2004 and still serves in that capacity. Randy continues to work very hard promoting and advocating for wrestling all over the Empire State.

Randy stated humbly in a 2004 interview with the Gouverneur Tribune Press the following which certainly characterizes his personality and coaching philosophy, “our success isn’t just me. Wrestling is an honored tradition in Gouverneur. Right now, we have got third generation wrestlers on our team. Their fathers and grandfathers wrestled for the Wildcats and they are proud to be carrying on the traditions. It’s in their blood.” Randy understand the importance of wrestling and the role it plays in the development of young people. Randy is a man of integrity, passionate in his support of wrestling, and embodies all the personal characteristics that represents a good coach and ambassador for the sport of wrestling.
