Schmit Named Iowa High School Female Wrestler of the Year
WATERLOO, Iowa – The National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum announced on Wednesday that Ella Schmit of Bettendorf High School has been chosen as the 2022 recipient of the Iowa High School Female Wrestler of the Year award.
This award is presented annually to the top female high school senior wrestler in Iowa. Schmit will be presented her award during the Glen Brand Wrestling Hall of Fame of Iowa induction ceremony on June 24 at the Prairie Links Golf & Event Center in Waverly, Iowa. The three-time Iowa Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association state champion had a perfect 16-0 record with 13 pins as a senior and was 70-18 in her career against boys and girls. Schmit qualified for the Iowa boys state tournament in 2021, one of only four girls in Iowa wrestling history to accomplish the feat.
The third-ranked female wrestler in the country will continue her wrestling career at the University of Iowa.
