More Flips Than Your Pancake House: FHSAA States 2026
The FHSAA hosted a memorable championship directed by Rick Tribit (HOF Class of 2008). The board's location on the mezzanine was the place to be during the 3 day event. Alumni came by to say hello and the museum display never disappoints the casual passersby.
It was hard to not notice the wild number of backflips by so many Florida champions including a heavy weight. Perhaps they have a future in gymnastics. The 3A division was flipped on its head by 113 lb. Abigail Gonzalez (Freshman, Miami Southridge) with her first round victory and a medal round 8th place finish. Board members were holding down the fort when the crowd roared, causing us to leap to our feet in time to witness the exciting finish, not knowing it was a female wrestling the boys. The girls tournament has become popular with the fans because the ladies are wrestling at a high level.
Bobby, Robert and Bill drew fans to the annual Hall of Fame Carnival featuring "Spin the Wheel". Prizes included T's, stickers, and backpacks. Bill Combs was also busy breaking the chin-up record at the United States Air Force booth.
During the Green Jacket ceremony on the floor we welcomed and introduced the Class of 2026, Mike Schyck, Pat Ancil, Dave Arter, Travis Gray, Louis Kashiroubas , John Severe, Mark DeToro, and Col. Drew Meyerowich. Senior Camdyn Elliott was awarded the Kleinman and Lessman sponsored $1000 scholarship for girls and senior Bennett Sweitzer received the boys scholarship.
