AMMAN, Jordan – The U.S. women’s freestyle team added two medals, one gold and one bronze, to the total count and concluded action at the U17 World Championships in Amman, Jordan, on Friday.

Taina Fernandez claimed the gold medal in dominant fashion at 61 kg. In the finals, Fernandez faced Sae Noguchi of Japan. Fernandez got on the scoreboard first when Noguchi was put on the activity clock but couldn't score. Leading 1-0 after the first period, Fernandez added a point with a step out and followed it up with a takedown, extending her lead to 4-0. At 3:23, she secured a pin, securing the gold medal at her first trip to a World Championship tournament.

2023 U17 World Champion Morgan Turner brought home a bronze medal with an impressive victory over Jessica Tuominen of Finland at 46 kg. Turner came out strong, scoring a takedown right off the whistle and quickly transitioning to a leg lace, giving her a 4-0 lead. She added another takedown, pushing the score to 6-0, before pinning Tuominen at 1:38. Turner is now a two-time U17 World medalist.

At 53 kg, Isabella Gonzales fought hard in her bronze medal match but ultimately fell short against Muskan of India, finishing in fifth place. Gonzales started strong, securing a takedown to take a 2-0 lead. Muskan gained an edge just before the end of the first period with a takedown and exposure, jumping ahead 4-2. Muskan continued her push in the second period,  winning 12-2.
