February National Girls High School Team Ranking Released
The committee which selects the National Girls High School Rankings for individual athletes, which includes representation from the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, USA Wrestling and FloWrestling has released its February National Girls High School Team Rankings.
This ranking includes public and private schools at the high school level from all states, including states with official girls state championship events as well as those with unofficial girls state championships.
The committee has once again named the Top 40 high school teams in the nation but has expanded its honorable mention list by 10 teams to 40 honorable mention teams.
The top two teams in the rankings from January have remained on the top two in February, No. 1 Wyoming Seminary (Pennsylvania) and No. 2 Toppenish (Washington). Wyoming Seminary has nine nationally ranked individuals and is the returning Prep National champions. Toppenish has continued winning all of the tournaments it has ended this year, and is the defending smaller school state champions in Washington.
Moving up to No. 3 in the rankings is Cleveland (Tennessee), which won the Tennessee state dual meet title this year. No. 4 Allen (Texas), which has won two straight 6A state titles and is No. 1 in 6A heading into the state tournament. No. 5 is Harrison (Ohio), which won the Ohio state dual title this year and is defending state team champion.
Rounding out the top 10 teams are No. 6 SLAM Academy (Nevada), No. 7 Lubbock Cooper (Texas), No. 8 Walnut (California), No. 9 Gilroy (California) and No. 10 Broken Arrow (Oklahoma).
As of this ranking, state high school championships for girls have been held in Alabama, Alaska, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Montana, New York, Utah (1A/2A) and Washington, D.C, plus private school state events in Texas and Georgia. There will be over 40 high school state meets held over the next two weekends, with the final few state championships set for March.
The highest-ranked team from a state which has already held its girls state championships is No. 13 Decorah, the 2024 Iowa state champion team. Other 2023-24 state championship teams in the top 40 are No. 15 New Haven (Indiana), No. 30 Soldotna (Alaska), No. 38 Billings Senior (Montana) and No. 40 Minisink Valley (New York).
There are 38 states represented in the February ranking. California has the most ranked teams with seven. Texas is next with five teams. Iowa, Arizona and Colorado have four teams. Teams with three ranked athletes include Tennessee, Oklahoma and Florida.
The committee will have its final rankings released in late March, after all of the state high school championships have been concluded.
In order to grow this program, we need more input from coaches, parents, administrators, journalists and fans to have the strongest and most accurate rankings possible. If you believe a team should be ranked, please provide detailed information to the committee, including team roster and results for the season.
