Gable was inducted as a Distinguished Member in 1980 and is the namesake of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Dan Gable Museum.

He has been named “Wrestler of the Century,” “Top 100 Olympic Champions of All Time,” and “Sports Figure of the Century in Iowa.” He was also a three-time Iowa state high school champion at Waterloo West High School and a two-time NCAA Champion at Iowa State University. His combined record in high school and college was 181-1. Gable went on to win a World Championship in 1971 and a gold medal at the Olympics in 1972. These are only a few of Gable’s many wrestling career titles. As a coach, Gable led the University of Iowa to 15 NCAA Division I team championships in 21 years and 21 straight Big Ten titles.
