Frederick Buechel

Dr. Buechel began to wrestling at Seton Hall Prep in the early 1960's when wrestling at the Prep was in its infancy. An eager and enthusiastic athlete, he revealed a strong work ethic and desire to succeed that helped build a strong foundation for the new program. During his senior year he posted a record of 23-1 and won the State Championship. He continued his interest in wrestling at Seton Hall University where he had a record of 61-5-2. He was a three time Metropolitan Champion, won five New Jersey AAU Freestyle Championships, the AAU Greco-Roman title at 167 pounds, and placed seventh in the NCAA Championships. Dr. Buechel's professional success is as an Orthopedic Surgeon. He received his medical degree from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey in 1971. Currently Dr. Buechel holds the position of Chief of Total Reconstructive and Arthritis Surgery Services at UMDNJ, a position he has held since 1980. He is president of South Mountain Orthopedic Associates, his private practice. An experienced and knowledgeable surgeon, Dr. Buechel has presented talks and written papers throughout the world. He has published some 600 papers that appeared in various medical, scientific, and engineering journals. Dr. Buechel, one of wrestling's biggest promoters, attributes the lessons he learned in wrestling to his success in life.
