Russell Riegel
Russ Riegel wrestled at Washington High School where he was a four-time New Jersey State finalist placing first two times. His record at Gettysburg College was 58-1 He won the Middle Atlantic Conference Championship four times, selected as Outstanding Wrestler on two occasions. Riegel started the wrestling program at Hunterdon Central High School where he coached for 35 years. He initiated the Hunterdon Central Invitational Wrestling Tournament, the oldest secondary tournament in the nation. His dual meet career record in New Jersey is 533-89-6. His teams have 58 tournament wins. After retiring from Central, Reigel continued coaching in Kentucky where his teams have a record of 103-38-1. A highlight of the Hunterdon Central individual records indicates overall excellence with 10 State Champions, 57 Region Champions, and 159 District Champions. Russ is a member of the Gettysburg Hall of Fame, the Region V Hall of Fame, and in 1989 was named the USA Wrestling Man of the Year.
