Carmon Molino
Carmon Molino is working his way through the brass plaques in the State of New York. He is a member of the Section 5 Hall of Fame, the Cornell University Hall of Fame and the New York State Wrestling Coaches' Hall of Fame. Carmon began his coaching career by starting a new program at Groton High School in 1960. That year he wound up with a 0 and 9 record. This was followed with records of 9 and 3, 10 and 2, 12 and 0 and 12 and 1. During that time he also produced three Section 5 Individual Champions. He seemed to have found his vocation. Carmon wrestled at Cornell as a student and on the New York Athletic Club teams after graduating. He was a member of three U.S. World Teams: in 1961 as Freestyle wrestler (finishing sixth in the world), and again in 1962 and in 1963 as a Greco competitor. He was also a member of the EIWA championship Team of l959. Carmon became an assistant coach at Cornell in 1966. His contributions to the program were invaluable. He was instrumental in the coaching of teams that won several Ivy League titles and New York State Championships, and produced numerous EIW A and NCAA individual champions and a national champion. Carmon's modesty has left many of us unaware of the breadth of his contributions to the sport. He has been very involved with the youth programs, including summer camps and clinics that provide the future of wrestling. As to his coaching abilities, remember that he spent 25 years at Cornell working under Jimmy Miller, Andy Noel and Jack Spates, each of whom would choose only the best to serve on his staff. Carmon Molino's distaste of the limelight must now be overwhelmed by the record he has created. His many years spent developing fine wrestlers, and his own accomplishments on the mat, render this induction a most deserved tribute to this quiet talent.
