Herbert Farrell

Herbie Farrell wrestled at Roselle Park High School under the direction of “Pug” Williams, Roselle Park’s first wrestling coach. At Roselle Park, Herbie posted a career record of 54-2, winning two NJ State Championships. He was the tournament’s first Outstanding Wrestler. As a high school student, Herb won the National AAU Championship; the first high school student to do so. He also won a National Championship as a college student at Indiana University. Herb Farrell’s excellence in wrestling continued as the Cranford High School coach where his teams earned a record of 206-115-2. The 1981 team was undefeated and declared Union County Champions. During this coaching period, his wrestlers demonstrated a high level of ability as revealed with approximately 50 District Champions and 25 Region Champions. Two of his wrestlers won state championships and two received second place medals. In addition to his achievements as a coach, Farrell officiated at the college level in the Eastern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.
