George Custer

The later George H. Custer passed away this past December 23rd, but not before he gave over 50 years to the sport he loved. George was a three time Pennsylvania State Wrestling Champion and finished his high school career with a record of 76 - 0. After graduation from Lock Haven State College in 1954 he became coach at Lewisburg High School until 1958 when he took over the reins at Bald Eagle Nittany High School. During the next 9 years his teams were 93-29-5 and he produced 3 individual state champions. He completed his coaching career at Ephrata High School in 1971. George was a P.I.A.A. wrestling official for 39 years and was co-founder of the Pennsylvania Coaches Association. It is believed that George officiated over 3000 dual meets during his career both high school and college matches. George was inducted into 6 Hall of Fames and into the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame as a wrestler, coach and official.
