Donald Conway

Donald M. Conway is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

Donald started his wrestling career by winning 2 state high school championships in 1955 in 1957. He was a three time Pacific Coast wrestling champion in the 177 pound class, and in 1961 he became the first wrestler from the Pacific Northwest to win an NCAA National Championship.

Coach Conway began his coaching career at Putnam High School, Milwaukie, Oregon. In 1971 he became head coach at Portland State University and won the Western Regional Championship in 1973. El Camino College in Torrance, California what is his next coaching assignment before becoming head coach at UCLA in 1979. In1981, Coach Conway moved to district athletic director for the Chehalis school district in Washington.

For his dedication in lasting influence on wrestling, Don Conway is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s Lifetime Service to Wrestling award for the class of 2002.
