Asa Wiley, a "Founding Father" of Pennsylvania Wrestling, spent about 42 years in teaching, coaching, and refereeing. In 1938 he started the wrestling program at Waynesburg High School and served there as head coach until 1942. During this time, Coach Wiley quickly put Waynesburg on the wrestling map. His teams posted two WPIAL team championships in that first five years, and he coached Dr. James Conklin to three of his record-setting four PIAA championships. Consequently, Conklin is the first-ever recipient of the Outstanding Pennsylvanian Award given by the Pennsylvania Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame. In 1942 Ace moved to Mt. Pleasant High School as a coach, and later on ended his high school coaching career at Greensburg High School, where he coached from 1950 to 1959. In 1959, Ace Wiley founded the wrestling program at Slippery Rock State College shortly after he became a faculty member there. This coaching stint resulted in the 1963 team earning a PSAC Bronze Medal, a feat, which had much to do with earning Ace's status as a Founding Father of Pennsylvania Wrestling at the collegiate level. In 1995, Ace Wiley received his belated laurels as becoming a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, of which he is not only a member, but also one of a handful of bona fide Founding Fathers.
