Clyde "Red" Witman is a 1950 graduate of Manheim Central High School, where he competed in football, wrestling, baseball and track. While attending West Chester State College, he competed in wrestling, and was a Wilkes Open Champion and Mid-Atlantic Champion winning the Outstanding Wrestler Award. Red began his teaching and coaching career at Manheim Central in 1956 and produced Manheim 's first State Wrestling Champion. The 1958 Manheim team produced 6 Regional titles, an existing PIAA record. Red Witman then moved on to coach at East Stroudsburg University. His teams won 76 percent of their dual meets against stiff conference competition and such opponents as Oklahoma, Oregon State, Navy, Maryland and Pitt. In 1968 they defeated Iowa. He produced 6 Division I and 20 College Division and Division II All-Americans. Clyde's East Stroudsburg teams won two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference titles in addition to the Wilkes Open and the Middle Atlantic AAU titles. He was also past president of the National Wrestling Coaches Association, and was inducted into the Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Officials Hall of Fame
