Richard Post
May 21, 1939 - February 11, 2024
Richard Post was a physical education teacher and coach at Pioneer Central Schools.
A 2006 inductee onto the Pioneer Athletics Wall of Fame, he was a part of the Panthers athletic program from 1969-1998.
Post coached wrestling and was also the varsity baseball coach and a junior varsity and varsity coach for football and softball.
It was in wrestling that he had his greatest success. Post coached teams to 14 consecutive Erie County Interscholastic Conference divisional titles. He had a career record of 184-10 losses, including a streak of 68 consecutive dual victories, a record not eclipsed in Pioneer history until 2023.
Mr. Post coached two individual New York State champions, Keith Stearns (1975) and Kyle Grunwald (1976-77), and led his team to state team championships in 1974 and 1975. He was voted Western New York Coach of the Year in 1983.
Coach Post is also a member of the Western New York Hall of Fame, the New York State Hall of Fame and the ECIC Hall of Fame.
