Edward is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

Few can truly be called a pioneer in the sport of wrestling, but Ed Klavon was at the birth of two of the more storied programs in Pennsylvania mat history.

As a high school junior, Ed was a member of the first wrestling team at Shaler High School.

After college and the military, he introduced wrestling at the newly opened North Penn High School in 1955. After an initial year as a club activity the sport caught on and he served as its head coach for the next 34 years.

Coach Klavon's Knights won 318 matches, lost 149 and tied 7 times. He coached undefeated teams in 1985 (15-0) and 1987 (18-0). The 1987 squad included five Sectional champs, four PIAA District I Champions, three PIAA Southeast Regional champs and six PIAA tournament qualifiers. Two of those qualifiers went on to win State championships.

Ed's teams won six Bux-Mont League championships, four Suburban One League championships, seven Sectional championships, two District I championships, three Southeast Regional championships and one PIAA championship.

In his career he coached 13 individual PIAA place winners including seven state champions, 32 state qualifiers, 20 regional champions, 27 district champions and 72 sectional champions.

For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Klavon is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Service to Wrestling" award for the class of 2000.
