Tim Donahue

Tim Donahue As a wrestler, coach and official, Tim Donahue has given a lifetime to wrestling in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Donahue won a pair of Northern District titles for Annandale High School in 1968 &1969 and the 103-Regional title in 1969. Donahue earned All-State honors, placing third in 1969. He interrupted his wrestling career for four years while studying for the priesthood at St. Mary's Seminary University, but returned to the mats in 1974 following his graduation, wrestling in open freestyle tournaments. He won the 125 pound AAU Potomac Valley Freestyle title in 1977 and the 125-pound AAU State Freestyle title in 1978, Tim never entered the priesthood, choosing education instead and became assistant wrestling coach at Hermitage High School in 1976. One year later he became the head coach. With the exception of the 1983-84 seasons, when he served as interim wrestling coach at Slipper Rock (PA) University, Donahue led the Hermitage program for the next 21 years. His teams amassed 207 victories and he coached four Virginia State champions. Individually his wrestlers won 45 District titles, 18 Regional titles and 30 Invitational tournament titles. Ten of his wrestlers went on to compete in college; two on scholarships at Division I programs. His teams won two Central Regional team titles and 11 team tournament titles. During the 1980's, Tim also coached in the AAU and USA wrestling freestyle programs, heading the Virginia USA Junior team in 1986 after assisting the previous two years. He also assisted the USA Elite World team in 1982 and the Cadet USA Freestyle team in 1983. Donahue was the state director of the wrestling division of Virginia AAU from 1978-1982 and the state director for USA Wrestling from 1978-1992. He served as the cultural exchange director for VA/USA Wrestling from 1985-1988. From 1976-1996, Tim served as a Freestyle and Greco-Roman official for both AAU and USA Wrestling and was named the Outstanding Official at the Potomac Valley Championships in 185. Donahue earned his Masters of Education from Virginia Commonwealth University in 1976 and added a Masters of Humanities from the University of Richmond in 1984. Since his induction Tim has earned a PhD in Neuropsychology at Virginia Commonwealth University.
