Ray Nunamaker

Ray Nunamaker is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling. "¢ Coached 34 years "¢ Never had a losing season, posting 468 wins "¢ Seven times team-tide runner-up in PIAA Tournament "¢ Ranked 4th by USA Today in '96 & '97 "¢ Seven-time District XI Coach of the Year Fresh out of Penn State University in 1963, Ray went to Nazareth High School and over the next 34 years his teams compiled a 468-95-7 record. They placed in the top five at the PIAA Class AAA Tournament in each of his last ten years coaching (1988-97) and were runners-up for the team title seven times (1988, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1995, 1996 and 1997). Ray's teams won 22 league championships while competing in 3 different leagues (Lehigh-Northampton, Colonial and Mountain Valley) and won the District XI team title 8 times. They were the number 1 ranked dual meet team in Pennsylvania in 1990 & 1996. They were ranked nationally from 1990 through 1997 and the 1996 & 1997 teams each finished fourth in the nation as ranked by USA Today (Prep Wrestling Coast-to-Coast). He coached 60 PIAA state place winners including 9 State Champions and 16 Runners-Up, 38 Northeast Regional champions and 50 District XI champions. 4 of his wrestlers earned High School All-American status at the National High School tournament. Ray Nunamaker was twice honored by the National Wrestling Coaches Association as the Pennsylvania State Coach-of­ the-Year, including the NWCA's inaugural award in 1995. For his dedication and lasting influence on wrestling, Nunamaker is presented the National Wrestling Hall of Fame's "Lifetime Achievement Award" for the class of 2000.
