Paul Post
Paul L. Post started his coaching career as an Assistant Football coach at Grove in 1936-37. In 1938 he made a move to Sallisaw. Except for the five years he served in the U.S. Army during World War II, he taught mathematics and coached wrestling and football at Sallisaw High School. His peers called him the "Dean of Wrestling" and he was often referred to as the pillar of wrestling in the state of Oklahoma. Coach Post encouraged the continuation of wrestling as a high school sport upon his return from World War II, and resumed the wrestling program at Sallisaw even though few teams existed for competition. He drove his teams long distances for wrestling meets. Post was previously named to the Oklahoma Wrestling Coaches Association Hall of Fame, the Tulsa Edison High School Hall of Fame and the Sallisaw High School Hall of Fame. In 1972 the Oklahoma Military Academy (now known as Rogers State College) honored Coach Post with a "Paul Post Night." Because of his many contributions to the students and athletes in Sallisaw, the Sallisaw Gymnasium was named for him - the "Paul Post Memorial Field House." Sallisaw also honored Paul Post by holding the Paul Post Annual Wrestling Tournament each year. Post retired from Sallisaw High School in 1967 and is now deceased. His widow, Cleo Post, gives an annual scholarship in Coach Post's name to the wrestler at Sallisaw High School who scores the most team points.
