Terry Haise

He was a Pennsylvania state high school champion in 1960 and a second place-finisher in 1961. While wrestling for Syracuse University, he was an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association freshman champion and placed in the EWIA championships three years, finishing second once and third twice.

After a successful stint as a coach in upstate New York, he moved to Long Island and from 1969 to 1997 served as varsity coach for Freeport High School. His career at Freeport proved to be remarkably successful. During his tenure Freeport consistently placed in the Top 10, including runner-up finishes in the County Championships in 1981, 1982 and 1997.

Individually, the wrestlers Terry coached were equally successful. Two of his wrestlers became New York State champions and eight were finalists. In all, he coached 17 all-state wrestlers at Freeport. He also coached 55 division champions, 22 Nassau County champions and a total of 60 all-county wrestlers. Many wrestlers who learned their skills from Coach Haise went on to have great college careers, including 11 All-Americans and six national champions.

In addition to his coaching duties at Freeport, Terry has participated in many organization as a coach or tournament director. He established USA “Kid Wrestling” in Nassau County over 20 years ago.
