Reggie Jones has been continuously active in the sport of wrestling since 1943 – over half a century.

He wrestled for Baldwin High School where he earned the Long Island title in 1945. He was a member of the Baldwin team that broke Mepham High School’s win streak at 100. He continued to compete for four years at Cortland State Teachers College where he was a New England place winner.

After graduating from Cortland in 1950, Reggie began teaching and coaching. He taught social studies and coached several sports for the next 35 years in the Garden City School District.

His junior high teams were league champions and undefeated for 10 consecutive seasons and Reggie was named “Coach of the Year” in 1963.

Among his proudest accomplishments is working 44 consecutive seasons as a high school and college official. He is also a past president of the Long Island Wrestling Officials Association, an organization that he has been an active member of since the early 1950s.

Reggie has officiated the Nassau County (Section VIII) Wrestling Tournament every year since 1958, and has been rated the number one official in the LIWOA numerous times. He’s also been a familiar face at the New York state tournament. Reggie’s first appearance was in 1966 and he has officiated there 15 times.

As an Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) official, he has been selected to work at many prestigious events, including four NCAA Division III national tournaments and six Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association (EIWA) tournaments. Reggie has also worked the Metropolitan Conference Championships since its inception.
