Robert Shernce

Bob is already in the Mount Olive High School Hall of Fame and the NJSIAA Hall of Fame (1990), so it comes as no surprise he's been inducted to the New Jersey Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame Though retired as a physical education and health teacher, he continues to assist in the athletic field as a volunteer coach with the Mount Olive girls' golf team, a program he started four years ago. He has coached high school golf since 1990. A graduate of Roxbury High, Bob went on to wrestle for Seton Hall University and became a two-time Metropolitan place winner. He broke into the coaching profession in 1971 as an assistant at West Morris High School. He moved up to the head coaching position at Mt. Olive in 1978. After 11 years in charge he switched seats and became an assistant another 15 years. From 2004-2008 he was head wrestling coach at Mt. Olive Middle School. In 2003, he was named National Wrestling Coaches Association Assistant of the Year. As if that wasn't enough, in 1973 Bob took over the recreation program as coach at Mt. Olive and continues to this day. He would be one of the founders of the Lakeland Wrestling Club in 1980, as well as the Morris County Wrestling Tournament. He also made time to coach for the USA Wrestling Club at Mt. Olive High. As a high school head wrestling coach he produced 37 district champions, seven region champions and had seven state place winners. His Mt. Olive team won districts in 1983, qualified for sectionals several times and in 2002 won a Group 2 state sectional.
