Bryan Hazard
Outstanding wrestler, a top-tier coach, and in recent years a wrestling broadcaster and announcer, Bryan Hazard's life has had one constant throughout: his sport.
At every level of accomplishment, he credits a series of mentors that has sustained him, starting with his father. He began wrestling at the age of five for his father Kevin (Lifetime Service to Wrestling recipient from the Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1997), and developed such skill in freestyle wrestling that he won a Cadet national championship in 10th grade.
At Robinson Secondary School, he wrestled for John Epperly (Lifetime Service to Wrestling recipient from the Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1990); at George Mason, his coach was Mike Moyer (Lifetime Service to Wrestling recipient from the Virginia Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2010 and national Order of Merit honoree in 2022).
Bryan enjoyed "winning championships and having the ability to see the world."
In 1996, Bryan became a physical education teacher and only the third head wrestling coach at his high school alma mater, building a formidable program with the Rams.
In his 23 years thus far, his teams have won 11 district, six region, and four state titles. The individual achievements are equally impressive: 112 district, 61 region, and 23 state champions, along with 98 state medal winners (top six finishers). He has had the pleasure of watching 28 of his athletes so far compete at the NCAA level.
Bryan has also served as a coach, team leader, and state leader for organizations like USA Wrestling and the National Wrestling Coaches Association.
Always looking to promote his sport, Hazard has also created a niche for himself as a broadcaster and public address announcer at events around the world. He is comfortable behind a microphone and has served as an announcer for NBC, ESPN, USA Wrestling, United World Wrestling, FloWrestling, Journeymen Wrestling, and the NCAA Championships. His energetic style creates excitement at events, and people appreciate his sophisticated wrestling knowledge.
Bryan is married to the woman of his dreams, Micky Hazard. He has three amazing sons, Tyler, Alex, and Justice.
He wants to thank all the Hall of Fame members who have helped him get here today!
