HD Weddel

HD Waddell is recognized for his years of dedication to the development of leadership and citizenship in young people through the sport of wrestling.

After graduating from Tigard high school in 1975, HD became a three-year letterman at Oregon State University, graduating in 1979. During his 29 years of coaching wrestling at Neahkahnie, Tigard, McMinnville, and Bend high schools, HD posted a dual meet record of 171-114. His 1989 Tigard team placed third at the OSAA State Championships. His team finished in the OSAA state top 10 six times. His individual wrestlers won 34 individual district, 4 OSAA state, and 12 freestyle/Greco state titles. 14 of his wrestlers competed at the collegiate level, two of which became NCAA Division I All Americans. HD was selected to coach the Oregon cultural exchange team to Cuba and the Oregon high school team at the junior world tryouts. He was named district coach of the year four times. HD has a masters degree in education from Portland State University and was principal at Bend high school . He has served as Oregon State University football team Chaplain since 2005.
