Albert Silveri

Al graduated from Mahanoy Area High School then attended Bloomsburg State College, graduating in 1970, but did not wrestle there. After graduating, Al was hired at Wyomissing High School, and immediately began his coaching career as an assistant wrestling coach and started developing a lifelong love for the sport of wrestling. In 1979, he became the Head Jr. High Coach at Conrad Weiser, and led the young Scouts until 1982. He then moved upstate and was the Jr. High coached at Muncy for two seasons. He then returned to Conrad Weiser and became a varsity assistant coach and was on the staff of the Scout's 1985 League Championship team. Al contributed in many other ways after he returned to Conrad Weiser. He was a wrestling time keeper, a scorer, and an elementary coach as well. Al remained in that capacity through 2003, before returning to Wyomissing to teach and serve as a varsity assistant wrestling coach. Al has since retired from teaching but continues to be at mat side as an assistant coach. He also served many of those same years as an assistant football coach. In case you aren't counting, Al has served as a junior high or assistant wrestling coach for approximately 48 years and counting. Throw in the time as a football coach, Al has over 60 years as a coach! Quite a statement about his love of developing young athletes, serving his school and community and building the character of those athletes. It is not often that an individual will carry the load as an assistant, mostly out of the limelight, to serve the program, and the sport for that number of years. Al was one of the founders of the Berks County Mat Club, which supports wrestling at all levels and all schools in Berks county. He is a member of the Pennsylvania Wrestling Coaches Association. Throughout his many years in wrestling, Al has helped to organize and worked at numerous wrestling tournaments at Wyomissing, Conrad Weiser and in Berks County venues during his nearly 50-year involvement with our sport of Wrestling. Al has demonstrated that if something is needed relating to the sport of wrestling, he is one of the first people you want to approach to assist in Berks County. Again, this is quite a testament to his dedication and love of the sport. Al and his wife Marianne have raised two children, and continue to live in Wyomissing, PA.
