Gregory Brooks
Gregory Brooks began his wrestling career at Chicago Hirsch High School, where he qualified for the state tournament in 1963 and posted a high school career record of 103-9. He also played football and captained the team his senior year. His collegiate days were spent at Luther College in Decorah, Iowa, where he participated in both football and wrestling. He placed third and first in the conference, while accumulating a record of 126-12. Greg began his teaching and coaching career at Chicago Parker High School, now known as Robeson. While there, he produced four state qualifiers and one state place-winner. He then moved to Hubbard High School, where he mentored one state qualifier before moving to Fenger High school, where his teams won three City Championships and placed second four times. At Fenger, he coached 51 state qualifiers and seven place-winners and qualified one team for the State Duals. Fenger was also the City Dual Meet Champions, earning Greg honors as Coach of the Year for the City of Chicago. Greg's teams won nine straight individual and dual conference championships. He also served as Fenger's head football coach. Upon leaving Fenger, he became a Dean of Students at Sullivan High School and served as the assistant football coach. In 1999, Greg was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame and in 2004, he was inducted into the Illinois Football Coaches Association Football Hall of Fame. Later that year, Greg was listed in "Who's Who Among Teachers in America" for his outstanding dedication in the Chicago Public School System. He served as a Grand Marshal for the IHSA Individual State Tournament in 2008. In 2005, after working for 37 years, Greg retired. His greatest accomplishments can be seen in the lives of the young men he mentored; during this period Greg's athletes earned 57 Division I Football Scholarships, 14 wrestling scholarships and more than 200 college degrees. Gregory has also been a wrestling official for 42 years, working six State Dual Finals and 14 Individual State Finals.
