Harold Turner

Professing an exemplary career in service to his country, education and coaching, Lt. Colonel Turner has a distinguished resume. He parlayed his 1977 Industrial Technology degree from the University of Northern Iowa and an MS degree in Health Science Emergency and Disaster Management into his career work. He taught and coached 13 years at four Iowa high schools. An early stop at Wayne Community, Corydon, he later taught and was the head wrestling coach four years at Central Clinton, DeWitt; two years at Cedar Rapids, Washington; and six years at Maquoketa where he was a volunteer with the Maquoketa Wrestling Club. He later volunteered with the Johnston Wrestling Club from 1996 to 2005. He has also volunteered at the NAIA National Wresting Championships and in 2013 was recognized for his Service to Country and Unrelenting Support of UNI Wrestling. Lt. Colonel Turner has logged over 30 years of experience and leadership in various complexities of Secondary Education, Department of Homeland Security and the United States Army He has successfully managed multi-million dollar budgets with the ability to develop the vision and established measurements of effective progress particularly in emergency management and homeland security issues and national response plans, giving him a unique skill set to evaluate small organizations to a large state or region. From 2010 to the present, he has been a project specialist for Homeland Security and Emergency Management in the State of Iowa. He has also served as logistic planner in Iraq and a Senior Executive Officer and a Commander of Maintenance Training and the 734th Maintenance Battalion out of Camp Dodge in Johnston. Highly decorated for his military achievements, he has been bestowed with the Bronze Star during Operation Iraqi Freedom, twice been decorated with the Meritorious Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. He has also earned the Global War on Terrorism Medal, the Humanitarian Service Medal, the General Douglas McArthur Leadership Award and a multiple winner of the Army Commendation Medal and the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal.
