Roger Reina graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 1984. He was Team Captain 1983 & 1984, was All Ivy League both years. Roger was the Head Coach at PENN from 1986-2005. He resigned to accept a position as senior major gift officer for PENN Medical Development. He was the most successful coach in the 107-year history of Penn Wrestling with a record of 205-106-6. His teams won 8 Ivy League and 4 EIWA crowns. Penn finished 9th in the 1999 NCAA tournament, and in 11th in 2002. In his time at PENN, Roger was the EIWA Coach of the Year in three different seasons. PENN had top-20 finishes at the NCAA Championships 5 of his last 7 years, and had at least one All-American in 9 consecutive seasons. He had 63 NCAA Qualifiers, 31 EIWA Champs, & 17 All-Americans. Roger had 3 NCAA finalists & 1 NCAA Champion, Brett Matter. He coached Olympic champion, Brandon Slay, Freestyle Gold Medalist in the 2000 Games at Sydney. Roger was very active in the NWCA and served one term as President. He is a member of both the University of Pennsylvania Athletic Hall of Fame and the EIWA Hall of Fame. Roger was the Chairman of the local organizing committee for the NCAA wrestling tournament held in Philadelphia, which set records for attendance and media coverage. He served as Chairman of the local committee for the 2014 NWCA All-Star meet. In 2014, Roger served on the committee to select Alex Tirapelle as the new Penn wrestling coach. In 2014-15, he was a volunteer assistant coach at PENN and an advisor to the new coach. He also founded a USA Wrestling Regional Training Center in Philadelphia and is now serving as its Chairman of the Board and President.
