Dennis DiSanto

Dennis DiSanto has built a reputation as a trustworthy, well-respected and knowledgeable educational leader as a coach and School Counselor. He is quietly confident and a highly intelligent professional. Dennis is of great moral character, complete integrity and is regarded as one of the best in Section I. Prior to and while coaching, Dennis has earned several educational degrees. He graduated from SUNY Oswego in 1979 with a Bachelors of Arts degree in Psychology. He also holds a Master's of Science degree from Long Island University in School Counseling and a Professional Diploma in Educational Leadership from Southern Connecticut University. In his local community, Dennis personifies family involvement and civic dedication. Dennis, along with his brothers, (Victor and Ron) wrestled for Somers High School. They all served as Captain of the team. He also had the pleasure of coaching his nephew, (Ron Jr.) who currently serves as the Head Coach at Somers. Dennis has run youth wrestling programs since 1985 and been a summer wrestling camp director since 1995, bringing in Olympians and All-Americans to work with the youth and high school-aged athletes. He further served his community as President of the United Home Owners Association of Shenorock from 2004-2011, where he spearheaded a movement to clean-up the environment and raised awareness of the need to develop a long term plan to protect Lake Shenorock from environmental concerns. Personally, Dennis and Victoria have been married for 35 years and are the proud parents of two daughters, Krista and Melissa. Coach DiSanto was appointed Head Wrestling Coach at Somers High School (1985) all-the-while working for Mahopac High School as a School Counselor, which spanned a 27 year period as a commuter-coach. He left Somers and was appointed the Head Wrestling Coach in his home district of Mahopac in 2011. In lifetime service, Dennis has compiled an impressive coaching resume at both Somers and Mahopac that includes championships and awards received. To his credit and deep caring for student-athletes, Dennis' accomplishments include both team and individual honors. Currently, he has a dual meet record of 365-132. Dennis has many "firsts" as a Section One Coach. In 2003, he coached the first eighth grader from Section One to place in the New York State Tournament. In 2009, he coached the first freshman from Section One to win a State title. In 2015, he coached the first female from Section One to win a Divisional title. Forty-two of his wrestlers made it to the Section I finals and twenty-one of them won Section I championships. He has had four NYS Finalists and two NYS champions, with Brian Realbuto taking home the Most Outstanding Wrestler trophy. Fourteen of his wrestlers have reached the 100 win plateau. His teams have won an impressive nine league titles. He has been named and received Coach-of-the-Year honors several times: League (1987, 1991, 1996, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2011, 2014); Westchester County (2000); Journal News (2000, 2015); and Section I (2000). The National Wrestling Hall of Fame welcomes Dennis DiSanto for induction into the class of 2015 and recipient of its Lifetime Service Award.
