Richard Iacono
After graduation from Bound Brook High School (NJ), and later West Liberty University, (WV), in 1971, Rick Iacono would proceed to invest over 40 years of service as a wrestling coach in 4 different New Jersey high schools. His trademark as a head coach was to assume programs whose moniker at one time were successful ones, but prior to his assumption of duties were "in need of repair" as such was done at Jonathan Dayton H.S. in Springfield, and Middlesex High School. During the course of his tenure in coaching, Rick's teams were well represented and he enjoyed having a number of team, and individual county, district, and regional championships along with several wrestlers who have placed at all levels of competition. Rick has augmented his achievements with numerous Coach of the Year Awards, and he is most proud of his teams' and their accumulation of 324 victories, ranking #17 among the all-time list of New Jersey coaches. Rick has also coached a number of other sports namely football, tennis, softball, baseball, soccer, volleyball and field hockey. Rick exercised his leadership as President of Region 3 and its coaches, was a District 10 & 12 representative, and complemented his 42 years of coaching by serving as a high school wrestling official where he was an active member of the NJWOA for 40 years. Rick was also a Freestyle and Greco-Roman official having officiated AAU and Federation tournaments as well as the prestigious Olympic Trials. Rick has always remained a student of the sport of wrestling looking to improve the skills of his wrestlers, and his frequent attendance at various in and out of state coaching clinics has provided him the opportunity to share what was learned with his coaching staff and wrestlers. Rick and his wife Kitty reside in Middlesex, New Jersey, and are the parents of three grown children. Congratulations Rick, and to your family on your induction into the New Jersey Chapter of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame.
