Charles Hershey

Charles Hershey has actively supported wrestling for many years; he wrestled for Columbia High School 1954-1957. In 1960, he became a wrestling official until retiring in 1985. He officiated many high school and college tournaments, & numerous Sectional, District, Regional tournaments including the PIAA State Championships. Charles was Lancaster-Lebanon Coaches Association Outstanding Wrestling Official in 1985, and he served as an officer in the Lancaster Lebanon Wrestling Officials Chapter in all capacities, including the chapter secretary/treasurer for 10 years. Charles was active in the organization to support Columbia Elementary Wrestling and organized the Columbia Wrestling Alumni Association. He was the committee chairperson to recognize fifty years of wrestling at CHS. Charles organized volunteers to build a wrestling room for the Columbia Boys Athletic Association in the Noah Wenger Center. He participated, as an original committee member, in organizing National Wrestling Association, Pa. Alpha Chapter, which later became the NWHOF Pennsylvania Chapter. He served as a committee member compiling the "History of Lancaster-Lebanon League Wrestling." As a consultant, he developed a strategic/business plan for the National Wrestling Coaches Association. He developed the process for Dr. Thomas N. Hondras Memorial Wrestling Scholarship, awarded annually to a CHS wrestler. Scorer/timer PIAA Wrestling Championships since 2010. Charles is a graduate of Columbia High and attended Franklin & Marshall's night school division. He becomes the fifth NWHOF inductee from Columbia High School and the sixth inductee from the LLWOC. Charles and his spouse, Peggy have four children, six grandchildren and still reside in Columbia.
