Howard (Joe) Foulk
A 1952 graduate of Haddonfield Memorial High School where he excelled in basketball and baseball, Foulk received his credentials to enter the teaching and coaching ranks after he graduated from Gettysburg College in 1957 and began teaching and coaching after service in the United States Army's 82nd Airborne Division. Joe's return to Haddonfield under the legendary Bill Frantz signaled the beginning of over 40 years of service to the wrestling community as an assistant coach, head coach, Athletic Director, and continued as a member of several wrestling service organizations. Foulk succeeded Frantz in 1969 and through 1983 he compiled a 144-76-4 record and won four District, three Lenape Christmas Tournaments and one Colonial Conference Championship. In addition, he had 29 district and six regional champions and three times his wrestlers placed among the top three in the state tournament. Foulk was a Region 7 Coach of the Year and was recipient of the South Jersey Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association (SJWCOA) Contribution Award. During his career, he was inducted into the South Jersey Coach's Association Hall of Fame and was awarded the New Jersey Interscholastic Coach's Association Award in 1981. As an original member of the SJWCOA, Foulk served 12 years as president and five as treasurer. A member of the Executive Committee of the South Jersey Hall of Fame Organization since its inception in 1980, he has served the past 20 years as its treasurer. He retired in 1990 from the Haddonfield School District, was inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame the following year and was inducted into the Haddonfield Memorial High School Athletic Hall of Fame in 1995. Foulk has served the Haddonfield community through public service events and has been a member of the Haddonfield Y's Men's Club providing community service for twenty five years. He currently lives in Pennsauken and spends half the year on South West Florida with many members of his family. His three children, Joseph, John, and Julia Foulk Smart and his nine grandchildren reside in the South Jersey area.
