David Dunlop
From his earliest involvement with wrestling as a competitor for Ralph "Pug" Williams at Roselle Park High School, Dunlop's life has evolved around helping others. Dunlop went to Cornell University, where he was an Eastern Intercollegiate Wrestling Association heavyweight place winner three times (3rd in 1957, 1st in 1958, and 4th in 1959). He became one of the premier fundraisers in the country for universities and other organizations, a legend in fund raising, developing new fund raising techniques and programs. In 1991 Dunlop was inducted into the Cornell Athletic Hall of Fame for his undergraduate accomplishments in football and wrestling. The head wrestling position at Cornell University is named after him. During Dunlop's 38 years at Cornell, he acquired a wide range of annual, capital campaign and major gift fund raising experience. He created and directed Cornell's program to encourage gifts of $5 million and up. From 1990 to 1995, Dunlop served on the senior management team of the Cornell Campaign that set a record for college an university campaigns, receiving over $1.5 billion in gifts. In 1987 Dunlop was the first recipient of the James L. Fisher Award for Professional Achievement, an award presented by CASE (Council for Advancement and Support of Education) for exceptional achievement, leadership, and innovative management. In 1991 he was presented the CASE Steuben Apple in recognition of teaching experience in the field of fund raising. In 1996 the Institute of Charitable Giving selected him one of two professionals to be designated a Major Gift Laureate for lifetime achievement on the field of major fund raising. At the CASE International Assembly on 2000, Dunlop was presented the Frank L. Ashmore Award for his service to the advancement profession and to CASE. The Demont Difference Fund presented him with its 2005 Lasting Difference Award. He has been a speaker and consultant on major gift giving for a wide range of institutions. Since his retirement on 1997, Dunlop continues to serve Cornell and other non-profits as a volunteer.
