Chance Marsteller
Four-time Pennsylvania state champion Chance Marsteller is the 2014 winner of the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award. Marsteller, who compiled a perfect 166-0 record competing for Kennard-Dale High School, is the fifth undefeated four-time Pennsylvania high school state champion and was voted the state’s Outstanding Wrestler three times. His fourth and final title came in spite of suffering a stress fracture in his back during the district championships.
Internationally, Marsteller won his first USA Wrestling Asics/Vaughan Cadet Freestyle National Championship in 2010 before he ever entered high school. He finished fourth in Greco-Roman in the same tournament. The next year, he won Cadet national titles in both styles. After his sophomore year, he again won a national title to earn the right to represent the United States in the FILA Cadet World Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan, where he made it to the semifinals but was injured and fell to fifth.
Also included in his impressive resume are two Super 32 championships and four Powerade titles. In 2013, he was featured in Sports Illustrated’s Faces in the Crowd for his outstanding athletic accomplishments. Marsteller was most recently named the 2014 American Family Insurance ALL-USA Wrestler of the Year by USA Today, and was honored by Intermat as the 2014 Wrestler of the Year.
He established the Pride Wrestling Club in his hometown to help train and coach young wrestlers ages 8-18. He also volunteers as a coach with Kennard-Dale Youth Wrestling. Academically, he carries a 3.33 grade point average and will attend Oklahoma State University this fall as a projected 174 pounder.
