Scott Beck
In 1999, Scott Beck was named team leader for the U.S. Pan American Games freestyle wrestling team and will serve in that same capacity for the U.S. team for the Olympics of 2000.
But in 1998, he was appointed "team leader" for an even bigger undertaking -- the "Wrestling for the Next Millennium" campaign to raise $10 million to maximize growth opportunities for wrestling in the United States.
Beck is one of this country's prominent businessmen. He is founder and CEO of Tango and was the founding investor of Reel.com serving as a Director until its 1998 acquisition by Hollywood Entertainment Corp. where he continues to serve as a Director.
He founded and served as Chairman, CEO and Director of Boston Chicken, Inc. and four years later as founder and Chairman of Einstein/Noah Bagel Corporation.
He was the first and largest franchisee of Blockbuster Video. He joined the company and served as Vice Chairman of the Board and Chief Operating Officer of Blockbuster Entertainment.
Beck is presently involved in various ministry efforts and is also the Chairman and Member of the Board of Trustees of the Denver Area Council of Boy Scouts of America. He founded the Bowana Foundation, a non-profit organization with a mission designed to build healthy and loving families through changed lives. He currently serves as a board member for U.S.A. Wrestling.
He has worked tirelessly on the "Wrestling for the Next Millennium" campaign. His leadership brings together the National Wrestling Coaches' Association, U.S.A. Wrestling and the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum in a combined effort to raise the monies needed to advance the sport of wrestling in this country.
Beck's involvement with the campaign is seen as playing a major role in its anticipated success.
