Dick Torio
December 31, 1929 - December 09, 2014
Dick Torio was international exceptionnelle, 1960-78, and officiated 22 Olympic and World Championships. He was named the Outstanding Official at the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich and has received two other major honors from the international federation. He was AAU Official of the Year in 1976.
Torio founded the Torio Health Club in 1957, producing national and world contenders in three sports. He coached the US Greco-Roman team in the 1963 World Championships and was manager of the 1968 Olympic Team in Mexico City. Torio was tournament director of the World Championships in 1962 and 1966, and World Cup tournaments from 1973 to 1986. He worked with Dick Wilson and Joe Scalzo, who were inducted as Distinguished Members in 2016 and 1987, respectively, to found the World Cup of International Wrestling in Toledo in 1973.
