James Jones

Jim Jones graduated from East Stroudsburg State in 1961. After graduation, he started the wrestling program at Marple Newtown and coached for 8 years. In 1969, he moved to Haverford where he remained for the next 43 years. Jim led the District 1 school to 3 League titles, and was named Central League Coach of the Year 4 times before retiring in 2012. Outstanding wrestlers he coached included State Champion Dean Brion, runner-up Pat Curry (both 1975), and his son Michael to a 4th place in 1997. Michael went on to Delaware Valley College and was 3-time All-American. Jim was elected to the SE Region Hall of Fame and the PWCA Hall of Fame in 1998, and to the Delaware County Athletic Hall of Fame in 2001. He has been a member of the District I Steering Committee for 8 years. James and wife Bridgetnetta live in Havertown and have eight children, James III, William, Patrick, John, Michael, Joseph, Bridget and Andrew.
