David Morgan

A native of Eagle Grove, Mr. Morgan wrestled for the Eagles under the tutelage of Marv Reiland, He posted an 84-16 career mark and was a four time State Meet qualifier. After taking fourth in the 1971 State Meet he came back to win three consecutive state championships, taking titles at 98 in 1972, 105 in 1973 and 126 in 1974. He rallied as an underdog to win the 1972 and 1973 crowns. The three titles each figured heavily into the team's success. The Eagles won the North Central Conference tide and tied for fourth in the 1972 State Meet, earned a team runner-up trophy in 1972 and reigned as the 1974 Class 2A State Champions. He was named to the USA Wrestling magazine All-American list in 1974. He went on later to become a two-time national junior college tournament qualifier and won the 1977 title at 142 for Iowa Central Community College in Eagle Grove. He then completed his degree from the University of Northern Iowa and spent 20 years coaching the sport starting with five years as an assistant at Fort Dodge in an era when the Dodgers finish in the top five including the 1985 title and 1988 runner-up. He then spent two seasons as the head coach at Webster City where his 1989 team had five state qualifiers. His final 13 years was at his alma mater. In his final five years at Eagle Grove, 1990-1994, he coached 17 state qualifiers, six place winners and two champions. His 1992 team won the Class 1A State Dual Team Title. Mr. Morgan was inducted in the IHSAA Wrestling Hall of Fame in 1990.
