Glenview Illinois native Tim Cysewski won the 119 pound state title at Glenbrook South High School in 1972. As a four-year starter at the University of Iowa, he earned All-American honors as a senior and was co-captain of the national-champion Hawkeyes. He posted a 99-23-4 career record at Iowa, graduated with a bachelor's degree in business administration and then served as an assistant coach for the Hawkeye Wrestling Club. Tim also captured World Cup, Pan Am Games, New Zealand Games, National Federation and AAU championships. A former U.S. World Team member and five-time Midlands champion, he is a member of the Illinois Wrestling Coaches and Officials Association and Midlands Hall of Fame. He took over as he Northwestern Wildcats head coach after serving eight seasons as an assistant to Tom Jarman. The duo compiled a 108-79-1 record and produced seven All-Americans in eight years. For the next 20 years, Tim oversaw a Northwestern program that produced four individual NCAA titlists, 27 All-Americans, 12 Big Ten champions and 88 NCAA qualifiers. From 2005 -09, he guided the Wildcats to five consecutive top-15 national finishes, including tying a program best fourth-place showing in 2007. His wrestlers earned individual NCAA titles in 2007, 2008 and 2009, making Northwestern the only school in the country to have at least one national champion each of those successive seasons. He also served on the National Wrestling Coaches Association Board of Directors and the NCAA Rules Committee. On the international scene, Tim coached squads at the 1993 U.S. Olympic Festival and the 1990 World Cup Championship. He served as head coach for the 1985-86 and 1988-89 Espoir World cup teams, the 1985 and 1986 U.S. national teams and the 2005 Pan Am Games. He also filled that role at the NWCA All-Star Classic. In 2008, USA Wrestling named Tim the FILA Junior/University Person of the Year for his leadership in establishing and directing the University National Championships.
