Gary Papa

Currently a member of the NJSIAA Wrestling Rules Committee and President of the South Jersey Wrestling Coaches Association, Gary W. Papa has made a name for himself within the coaching community as a leader of champions. Recognized as Wrestling USA Magazine's "NJ Man of the Year" in 2005, Papa had led his teams to fifteen NJSIAA Group Championships, twenty-two NJSIAA Sectional Championships, twenty-two NJSIAA District Championships, and seventeen Conference Team Titles. His individual coaching merits include 109 District Champions, forty-eight Regional Champions and eight State Champions. Papa has led a coaching career as both head and assistant coaches for various high school wrestling teams, excelling in each position. His coaching record over the course of his career is an outstanding 440-95-2. A graduate of Collingswood High School and York College, Papa can boast having coached the number one team in New Jersey in 2005 as well as having been named Region Coach of the Year four times. He has been inducted into the South Jersey Wrestling Hall of Fame, the Collingswood High School Hall of Fame, the Camden Catholic High School Hall of Fame, and the Camden County Sports Hall of Fame. Additionally, Papa has been inducted into the New Jersey Scholastic Coaches Association Hall of Fame and the South Jersey Coaches Association of Boys Athletics Hall of Fame. Also the recipient of the SJWCOA Contribution to South Jersey Wrestling Award, it is obvious that the coaching and athletic career of Gary W. Papa is one that epitomizes excellence in coaching and dedication to the sport.
